Delphos:
A close encounter of the second kind

From the Foreword to the report:

A UFO reported by one individual must by necessity be assigned a lower
credibility rating than a report by several witnesses, or better yet, by several groups
of witnesses, unknown to one another and separated by location.
The event reported on November 2, 1971, by Ronald Johnson, a Kansas farm
boy of 16, would therefore not be of exceptional interest, except for the fact that
physical evidence was apparently deposited by the phenomenon. The evidence
was viewed in place by well over a dozen individuals within the first few days. Some
of the evidence remained easily visible for several years. It was photographed,
measured, felt, collected, and analyzed.
Over the following 29 years, Ted Phillips, originally at the behest of Dr. J. Allen
Hynek, conscientiously and persistently pursued this case. The primary and
secondary witnesses were interviewed repeatedly and in depth. Soil samples were
collected in accordance with pro-established protocols and were analyzed by
qualified chemical laboratories.

This report details for the first time the complete chronology of the reported
events, the witness testimony, the Phillips investigation, and the chemical analysis of
the affected soil and control samples.

The Delphos case represents a classic Close Encounter of the Second Kind UFO
event with associated physical evidence. It offers a strong rebuttal to doubters who
maintain that scientific investigation of UFOs is impossible because there is nothing
to investigate.
